A Massive Tree
Good morning, or at least I hope
It is for you because for me and my
Neighbors, especially for them,
It is not so much. You see there
Was a storm here overnight, wind
Wailing and swirling sending the
Rain pelting against the windows
Sideways and then next door just as
The sun was rising and the storm
Was dying a massive tree, like
Six or even eight feet across
At the base, crashed to the ground, just
Walloped it. The roots covered in
Clumps of clay and dirt and confused,
Wiggling worms are amazing
To see just towering over
Me. Not when it happened, but now
As I stand in the street staring
And sending you this email since
The branches, some thicker than my
Waist after Thanksgiving dinner,
Tore the power lines down from the
Poles, just snapped them like dry pasta,
Which is the point of this message
To tell you why my assignment
For this week's class will be turned in
Late.
